Magnetic fixation of epitheses – The Titanmagnetics® system
- one of the most popular attachments for implant-anchored epitheses
- thanks to the unique two-magnet principle, the prosthesis finds its position almost independently
- available for the proven extraoral implant systems
Principle
- corrosion-proof magnets welded into surgical titanium
- concept is based on two active magnets that ensure the hold of the epithesis or defect prosthesis
- one magnet (insert) is screwed onto the implant, a second magnet (prosthesis magnet) is attached to the epithesis or prosthesis
- attraction between the two magnets ensures an attraction over a comparatively long distance
Shapes and sizes
- different product lines to adapt the holding elements to the requirements of the prosthesis in terms of holding force and insertion direction
X-Line
The Titanmagnetics® X-Line has a flat, slightly curved surface. The pull-off force is 1.6 N (160 g). The X-Line magnets have no lateral guidance and can therefore enable the supply of several highly angled implants.
The prosthesis magnets are available in versions for acrylic bases or with additional retention for silicone. To achieve more lateral stabilization of the epithesis, the X-Line prosthesis magnets are also available with an additional collar.
- Diameter: 4.8 mm
- Height: insert at least 2.6 mm, prosthesis magnet 2.65 mm
- Pull-off force: 1.6 N (160 g)
Z-Line
The Titanmagnetics® Z-Line, with its slightly curved surface, is similar to the magnets in the X-Line, but is larger and stronger (3N pull-off force, 300 g).
The denture magnets are also available for the Z-Line with a blasted surface for acrylic or with a retention ring for silicone. The denture magnets available in versions with or without a collar for more lateral stability.
- Diameter: 5.8 mm
- Height: Insert at least 3 mm, denture magnet 3.15 mm
- Pull-off force: 3.0 N (300 g)
T-Line
The Titanmagnetics® T-Line was developed specifically for auricular prostheses.
Its telescopic, peg-shaped connection enables axially guided movement of the prosthesis. This can, for example, prevent sideways slipping in ear prostheses that are lifted by the chewing muscles.
The T-Line is usually supplemented by additional magnets from the X-Line or Z-Line.
- Diameter: 5.8 mm
- Height: Insert at least 3.0 mm, prosthesis magnet 5.7 mm
- Pull-off force: 1.4 N (140 g)
K-Line
The Titanmagnetics® K-Line resembles a non-frictional 10° cone with 1.6 N (160 g) holding force, which offers lateral stabilization in addition to the magnetic hold.
The K-Line prostheses magnets are avialbale with rough surface for acrylic and with retention ring for silicone.
- Diameter: 5.2 mm
Height: Insert at least 1.5 mm, prosthesis magnet 5.0 mm
Removal force: 1.6 N (160 g)
Magnetic implant abutments
The Titanmagnetics® system consists of two components. A magnetic abutment, the so-called Titanmagnetics® insert, is screwed onto the implant. The second magnet is located in the prosthesis or epithesis.
There are Titanmagnetics® inserts with a threaded connection for various implant systems that are specially adapted to the special bony conditions in the skull area.
The Titanmagnetics® inserts have small wrench surfaces on the outer surface of the head so that they can be screwed in with the help of a screwing tool (ratchet insert) under torque control.
external hex
Brånemark – Vistafix2 – Southern Implants IE
The most widely used systems include implants with an external hexagon, as already known from the Brånemark system.
For implants with the classic hexagon connection, the Titanmagnetics® system offers a wide selection of different magnetic structures at implant level in different product lines and at different heights. Titanmagnetics® inserts at abutment level are also available for standard abutments from Southern Implants (ABE and Compact Conical) (only in selected markets).
The Southern Implants IE system combines this proven implant connection with modern implant surfaces. Thanks to the large number of different implant shapes and sizes available with the same platform, almost all applications can be treated with Titanmagnetics®.
The various Titanmagnetics® product lines with their different options enable the epithesis to be adapted to different prosthetic materials and requirements such as holding force, insertion direction or lateral guidance.
Southern Implants is also a distributor for Titanmagnetics®

BioComp AHEAD
The AHEAD implant system from BioComp offers a modern implant system with numerous abutment shapes and sizes, for which Titanmagnetics® are also available in all product lines.
The implants are available with different neck geometries. A variety of abutments are used to overcome the skin tissue and achieve the alignment of the prosthetic platform.
The various Titanmagnetics® product lines with their different options enable the epithesis to be adapted to the different prosthetic materials and requirements such as holding force, insertion direction or lateral guidance.
The Titanmagnetics® for the AHEAD system are distributed exclusively by BioComp Industries.

Medicon – Epiplating
The Epiplating implant system from Medicon is not a classic screw implant but is more similar to osteosynthesis plates. The system is available in various forms to meet the most diverse prosthetic requirements when treating ears, noses or eyes.
Titanmagnetics® can be attached directly to the plates or to base posts (abutments). Titanmagnetics® are available in all product lines. The magnetic abutments for direct screwing onto the plates are available in different tissue heights.
The Titanmagnetics® X-Line in the shortest height for the Epiplating plates and for the base posts are sold exclusively by Medicon. All other structure heights and product lines are sold by Steco.
please contact Medicon for more information to Epiplating system and standard X-Line Titanmagnetics®

Other extra-oral implant systems
There were other implant systems for anaplastology. Systems such as Straumann EO, Cochlear Vistafix 3 or the Leibinger grid are no longer marketed.
Titanmagnetics® may still be available for some of these systems if they are needed to replace an existing prosthetic.

Titanmagnetics for Cochlear Vistafix 3
Titanmagnetics for Epitek grid (on request)
Obturators
Various Titanmagnetics® and different shapes, sizes and retentions are available for coupling multi-part prostheses or obturators.
The Titanmagnetics® for obturators of the X-Line and Z-Line are each available with a blasted surface, the X-Line also with a retention ring for silicone.
In addition to the versions with a blasted surface for acrylic and with a retention ring for silicone, the denture magnets are also available with or without a collar.
The product lines X-Line and Z-Line have a concave-convex contact surface. A convex obturator magnet is always combined with a concave prosthesis magnet.
The Titanmagnetics® of the X-Line have a diameter of 4.8 mm and a retention force of 1.6 N, those of the Z-Line have a diameter of 5.8 mm and a retention force of 3.0N.
The Titanmagnetics® W-Line has a flat surface and the strongest pull-off force (3.3 N) of all Titanmagnetics®, which also works over a very large distance.
This product line was initially developed for nasal septum prostheses, but can also be used to couple larger defect prostheses.
The contact surfaces are polished on both sides, the retention surfaces are blasted (for acrylic) or provided with a retention ring for silicone or retention wings.
Thanks to the flat surface, two of the different versions of the W-Line can be combined depending on the obturator materials used.
Magnetic impression
Magnetic implant impression
The Titanmagnetics® system has magnetic impression posts and model implants for every product line. These are also made of surgical titanium and have their own magnet.
The impression posts are placed on the screwed-in Titanmagnetics® inserts. They orient themselves through the magnetic effect. The impression is taken with an individual tray or directly with impression material, which is stabilized externally if necessary (e.g. wooden spatula or similar). The impression is then sent to the laboratory for model production. Magnetic model implants are inserted into the impression posts. These also position themselves independently.
By using the Titanmagnetics® impression and model parts, the use of the original Titanmagnetics® inserts on the model is avoided. They can remain on the patient and are not endangered to get contaminated in the laboratory.
